Keakealani Campus
Volcano, Hawaii

Designs for the new K-8th-grade campus of the Volcano School of Arts and Sciences, located on the original Keakealani Campus property. The historic schoolhouse at the front of the property is preserved, and a new ring of buildings creates a central courtyard that classrooms and the gym spill into. A preschool with a private playfield is located beside the historic schoolhouse. The design aims to meet the school's future needs while drawing inspiration from the village's vernacular.
